Thesis
Effects of photoperiod, temperature and diet quality on BMR and thermogenesis in Brandt's voles (Lasiopodomys brandtii) and Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus)

Ph.D. projects
The major influencing factors on basal metabolic rate (BMR) and the mechanism of basal metabolic heat production in small rodents, comprises some related studies of basal metabolic rate and thermogenesis at individual, organ, molecular and hormone levels. My projects include: the effects of ambient temperature, food quality, and photoperiod on BMR, non-shivering thermogenesis and maximum metabolic rate induced by He-O2; BMR and cold-induced maximum metabolizable energy intake; BMR and internal morphology; BMR and mitochondria proton leak; BMR and mitochondria morphology and density in liver and brown adipose tissue; BMR and Thyroxin.

Awards
Di Ao Scholarship of CAS in 2003

Present affiliation
Since July 2003, Song worked for the Research Center for International Inspection & Quarantine Technical Regulation & Standard, AQSIQ. Now his title of a technical post is associated professor. Song engaged in standard management of entry-exit inspection and quarantine professional standard and the research on foreign technical regulations and standards. Song participated in establishment of two Chinese national standards, Glossary of phytosanitary terms and Code on quality and safety control of eel products for export. Song also published books such as Food additive Regulations of Major Trade Countries of P.R. China, EU Regulations of Materials and Articles intended to Come into Contact with Foodstuffs, Maximum Residue limits of Agricultural Chemicals in Food of Japan.
